Rugby 7s at the Olympics has given the sport a big recognition boost in America. Many sports fans are seeing sevens for the first time and falling in love with the speed, power, skill and grace exhibited by the sports elite athletes. If there’s one thing the American public loves to see its a big hit in sports, and of course leave it up to Minnesota native and Youngbloodz steel boned warrior Kathryn Johnson to lay the hammer down defending against Australian speedster Ellia Green.
We hope both athletes are doing ok after this massive collision!
Hey yawl, due to field scheduling conflicts we will now be practicing Monday at 5:30 at the Eagan Community center. Thursday practice will remain at Metro’s pitch at 800 Columbia Pkwy in Northeast Minneapolis.
Last Sunday the USA Women’s Eagles fought hard and finished second in the Final of the Atlanta 7′s Tourney. The stateside tournament was the World Rugby Organization HSBC World Series Sevens Series Final.
On top of that feat, our own KJ (Kathryn Johnson) was selected for the Atlanta7′s Dream Team! After an extremely successful tournament, KJ and fellow Eagle Victoria Folayan were picked as top performers and added to THE DREAM TEAM.
KJ is also a member of the USA Women’s Eagle Sevens “Dare to Dream Rio 2016″ Squad. This group of extremely talented players travel the world playing and training for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

After a lackluster placing at Lakefronts knocked us out of contention for a bid at nationals, Youngbloodz men decided not to make the 12 hour drive to Cin City 7s in Cincinnati this weekend. The women, being stout of heart and overall ballers, made the trip. more on that in the next news post. As for the men, most of the A side took this weekend as a chance to relax, catch up on game of thrones, and visit the natioanl park system
Our B side however was hungry for some more sevens, and found it here in the twin cities at the Nick Moore Memorial Sevens Tournament. On a sloppy rainy day, our second side bested all opponents including a fit, scrappy team out of Mankato and the ground shaking hooves of our fat kid affiliate team, the Clydesdales. Some might be proudest of our routing of the Wizards in the cup final, holding them to zero points, but i would say the best part of the day had to be making a secret pact with the Clydesdales behind the sir’s back to play touch for the last 2 minutes of the semi final game after play was resumed post rain delay.
We had a great time and want to thank Mayhem RFC for hosting a fun tournament.
Youngbloodz had a lot of fun playing sevens in the rain last weekend at MN 7s, but now it’s time to get down to business. 2014′s first Midwest qualifier, Madtown 7s will be held this saturday, June 14th. Younglboodz will be bringing 2 mens teams and a womens squad to the event.
Our first men’s open side game will be at 9:20 so please be at the pitch at 8:00 am.
Summer time is quickly making its way onto the Minnesota scene. That means it’s time to:
